2nd shift

Duty or Responsibility

  • Communicate with customers in a professional manner.
  • Ensure customer orders are completed in a timely fashion, conferring with department supervisor(s) as needed.
  • Pull orders according to company policy.
  • Read work orders or receive oral instructions to determine work assignments.
  • Safely and effective operate an elect pallet jack and wireless scanner (Scan Gun) in the completion of picking assignments.
  • Stage completed outgoing pallets in designated areas with proper labels.
  • Ensure all outgoing pallets are properly stacked and secured with tape or wrap.
  • Assist checkers with the daily loading of company or customer vehicles, including stacking of product when necessary.
  • Unload incoming freight, stacking off when necessary.
  • Set up incoming pallets for inspection and receiving by stacking down pallets, taping, wrapping, tagging, palletizing, etc.
  • Move pallets to designated areas, working with forklift drivers to facilitate efficient racking and storage of product.
  • Collect data as needed for Food Safety records/documentation.
  • Identify product quality issues and report to department supervisors.
  • Report any potential safety hazards or repair needs to department supervisors or other members of management.
  • Maintain clean and orderly assigned work area.
  • Assist the custodian in collecting waste, sweeping floors or other housekeeping tasks as assigned.

Job Requirements:

In order to perform the duties of this position:

1. High School diploma/GED/ or equivalent required.

2. Minimum six (6) months produce or related warehouse experience preferred.

3. Prior experience operating an electric pallet jack.

4. Limited supervision by Shipping and Receiving checkers is exercised over Warehouse Workers in the freight loading and unloading processes throughout the warehouse. Shipping/Receiving Supervisors exercise ongoing supervision of Warehouse Workers. Each picking assignment executed by a Warehouse Worker is checked for accuracy by a Checker using the Wireless Warehouse Management system (WMS). The Shipping Supervisor checks the Warehouse Worker's picking performance by comparing data collected from the WMS against established company standards. A careful assessment of other duties is included in scheduled performance reviews.

5. Make decisions and/or resolve issues by examining information and evaluate results to choose the best solution. Use knowledge of produce items to determine how to properly stack packages based on physical characteristics of packages (heavy, light, wet, or dry).

6. Inadvertent errors in the fulfillment of job duties could result in incorrectly shipped orders and loss of inventory leading to lost revenue and potential loss of future business. Mistakes in judgment or in the interpretation of company policy, particularly related to safety issues, could result in serious injury or death.

7. Warehouse Workers will have contact with the Tomato and Banana Department daily. Tomato and Banana Department supervisors and managers should be held in the same regard as Shipping and Receiving Department Managers/Supervisors. Refusal to follow their instructions will be considered insubordination. Limited contact is expected with the Sales and Buying Department as well as the Accounting Department (such as delivering packages of office supplies). Periodic contact is expected with the Human Resources Department (such as benefits enrollment or payroll related inquiries regarding direct deposit or deductions.)

8. Warehouse Workers will encounter customers, visitors, vendors or their representative inside the company's facilities and should interact with them in a professional manner, directing any business related inquiries to their supervisor.

Essential Functions:
a. Physcial presence at assigned location(s) is a requirement of this role.

Physical Requirements:
a. Ability to lift, lower, push, pull, leverage and manipulate equipment and/or packages weighing up to 75 lbs. repeatedly or continuously over the course of the shift..
b. Ability to visually recognize details at a close range and in the distance.
c. Bend, stoop/squat, crouch, stand and walk continually throughout the work day.
d. Perform tasks suing simple hand grasping, fine hand manipulation, and reaching.
e. Possess sufficient ability to communicate, through sight, hearing, and speech to perform assigned tasks and maintain proper job safety conditions.
f. Ability to operate a pump-up and/or electric pallet jack.
g. Ability to open and close heavy cooler or truck doors, manually.
h. Ability to work in both hot and cold temperature conditions. Work in environments with exposure to dust, dirt, noise and varying levels of humidity.
i. Work in an enclosed area.
j. Ability to work in close proximity to varying food items, including known food allergens.
